Once in Myrdal (little more than a train station, hotel, and a scattering of houses) we got on board the Flam railway line which we had anticipated to be one of the highlights of our Scandinavian leg of the trip. We were not disappointed. The train winds down some 860m of elevation through over 20 hand dug tunnels, passing by waterfalls and the UNESCO recognized Flam fjord valley. The train even stops at one particular waterfall to let passengers out and experience it close up. Of course when given the opportunity, Jack will always take lots of photos (she seems to get that from her father). Here are a couple (it was pretty rainy and cold):
Upon arriving in Flam we quickly got oriented, bought some more groceries and headed to our hostel. This one is the best we’ve stayed at yet, feeling more like a rustic cabin than a hostel. We agreed our luck has only been improving since the horrors of Uppsala. After a nap we explored the valley a bit before coming back and making dinner. Here are some of our best shots.
And for some reason, we decided to start taking pictures at an angle...
Tomorrow night will be spent here as well so we plan on doing one of the hiking trails up to the top of the fjord. Wish us luck.
