Where are we?

Day 39: Prague

We got up this morning and went for a run to make up for skipping yesterday. I had been feeling a little under the weather the past day or two and thought I was feeling better... until we got through the first mile of the course. Fortunately, we were only running 4 miles with some aerobic intervals packed in the middle. It took a fair bit out of me in the end and we decided to take a leisurely pace to the day.

We headed out for lunch at our favourite vegetarian restaurant (again). On the way, we passed through the Old Town Square where there was a large local artist festival. Young artists were all lined up painting a variety of different images and themes using only black and white. Some of them were quite good:

It being the first cloudy day in over two weeks, Jackie also got to take 'new looking' shots of the square. I thought that this one was full of brooding emotion:

After another delicious lunch, we strolled around some new neighbourhoods in the Jewish Quarter and admired the architecture. We had not found ourselves out this way yet and it was an interesting new face of Prague and much less touristy.

Since we had started a load of laundry back at the apartment, we wound our way back to hang our wet clothes. After, we stepped into the neighbouring (notice that I force the 'u' into words that it belongs in) art store, which was doing a show on gritty looking classic photos. There were a couple nice looking prints but the ones we favoured were from the artists stock collection. We picked up a portrait of a 1930's truck hood (from the Praga Motor Manufacturing Company), as well as a picture of some of the graffiti on the John Lennon Memorial Wall. We plan on framing these pieces and setting them up after we move to our new place. If you are curious to see them, please plan a visit to Nevada.

It was now late afternoon and since we planned on eating in tonight and we still had more restaurants to try, we went to one of the recommended places for a beer and an appetizer. Funny story though: we looked over the menu and liked the sound of the sweet potato dumplings, which we ordered. However, sweet potatoes are a new world food that haven't seemed to really take off here. What we got were regular potato dumplings loaded up with oil and sugar. Unexpected, but ultimately enjoyable:

We are now back at the apartment preparing pasta and a sausage-meat spaghetti sauce for dinner. Tomorrow we are doing another 5 mile run, then we are kicked out of the apartment and checking into a dorm style hostel for Thursday night. This is uncharted territory for us, so wish us luck. Friday will be our last day in Prague, with us catching the night train to Krakow that night.
